About the Siskiyou Arts Bus Project
Our goal is to help provide arts education and access to the arts for youth in Siskiyou County.

The Siskiyou Arts Bus Project is the arts and education component of the Siskiyou Arts Council. The program involves two mobile art studios (buses) and an interesting array of programs, held both on and off the bus. This is a countywide project, offering exploratory art for youth from preschool thru high school age who otherwise have little or no exposure to the arts.

Through the expression of the arts & sciences, the Siskiyou Arts Bus Project strives to teach and model creative self-expression, respect, tolerance and diversity, all with a goal of fostering healthy self-esteem for our community's children, with a strong effort to reach isolated children. Growing from the unique needs of Siskiyou County’s diverse rural landscape and a lack of art experiences available for our children, The Arts Bus Project can attribute its success to community support through its volunteers, fund-raising events and foundation grants.

We have been fortunate to receive financial support from many individual donors and:
California Arts CouncilFirst Five Siskiyou
Siskiyou Motorcycle Association Norris Foundation North State Parent magazine Scott Valley Bank Siskiyou Childcare Council Siskiyou Arts CouncilSiskiyou Community Service Council Siskiyou County Office Of Education Union Pacific

tn12607w03.jpgPamela Newman is currently the coordinator of the Siskiyou Arts Bus Project (since 2005), actively designing art programs and interweaving the talents of local artists to share their knowledge and skills of the arts with Siskiyou County youth. Current programs include Toddler Movement & Music, Summer Art Family Camp (2010),  Juvenile Justice art program, Art From Within (for Dunsmuir youth) and Art Club afterschool program. We also facilitate public events where art can be fully explored with children of all ages. Presently we are a small staff, and patience is required when implementing new programs and ideas, however, we DO encourage your suggestions and feedback! If you have desire to become an instructor or volunteer please inquire. A project like this needs many hands to make it happen!

"I love the arts bus - it is so awesome. There is clay, oil, pastels, probably any kind of art you could want. I try to come everyday because I love art. I will never forget the arts bus."

Your recurring financial donations help our youth programs flourish; they also sustain us. Donations of art supplies are also appreciated and allow children to express themselves in positive ways.

Children All Over The World Need Art!

Here's Why:

  • Art stimulates both sides of the brain.
  • Thirty percent of children are visual learners.
  • Art enhances perceptual development.
  • Children who experience art read better and do better in math and science.
  • Art enhances self-esteem.
  • Art helps develop hand-eye coordination.
  • Children with early art and music training are better able to visualize complex mathematical problems and solve them creatively.
  • Art develops awareness of the physical environment.
  • Art teaches children to engage in creative problem solving and open-ended thinking.
